What choghadiya is

The day from sunrise to sunset split into eight parts, each ruled by a planet and each carrying a name. The eight parts and their planetary rulers are classical: the parts are the ardhayama divisions, and the rulers follow the kala-hora order, the same succession the hora uses. The seven names are the regional almanac's own rather than the older texts'. It is the timing most people go by in Gujarat, Maharashtra and Rajasthan. Treat it as a light guide alongside the stronger factors, and note it is reckoned for the day only, not the night.
